What is Cato’s Ink?
Some years back, I read a book about Cato the Younger, a Roman statesman, called “Rome’s Last Citizen,” which left a great impression on me. Cato is considered the Patron saint of lost causes. He is also distinctly remembered for his strong ethics, moral independence, resistance to tyranny, integrity, and unquestionable support of the Roman Republic. So when I began this project years later, I named it after him as a sort of Homage.
This is a collection of personal essays and curated readings from a contrarian; Cato’s Ink is my contribution to the Townsquare.
Who am I?
Let’s start with what I’m not: I’m no subject matter expert, start-up founder, or celebrity. I have accomplished no great deeds in my life, live in Maine, work a day job, and worry about the same shit most people do. This is important to call out because I write about everything ranging from philosophy to geopolitics and AI and lay no claim to special knowledge. I don’t do this because I believe I have all the answers but because this project is partly about learning through writing and exchanging ideas.
What and who I am is an ordinary person with a love for learning and personal growth who desires to be part of a community of similarly curious people who share a commitment to personal growth and building a well-lived life.
